RACE: Are We So Different? opens to the public at the Muhammad Ali Center on September 24th. The highly-praised exhibit, which runs through January 2, 2017, helps visitors understand what race is and what it is not. This eye-opening interactive exhibit is the first nationally-traveling exhibition that provides a look at race from biological, cultural, and historical points of view and provides tools to recognize racial ideas and practices in contemporary American life.

WRITERS BLOCK FESTIVAL

The Writer’s Block Festival celebrates literature and the writing craft with a range of activities, readings, panels, guest talks, a book-in-common discussion, craft workshops and a print & resource fair. The open space at the Tim Faulkner Gallery will allow participants to roam from one activity to the next—stroll the print and resource fair for reading and writing resources, sit down to hear one or all of three panel discussions, attend craft workshops, stop in the gallery’s McQuixote coffee shop for a chat with other readers and writers, step outside to get lunch from a food truck, and imbibe in an adult beverage during late afternoon and evening activities.

Fourth Street Brings Louisville an Outdoor Ice Skating Rink @ Fourth Street Live

Think outdoor holiday ice skating is just for lucky New York tourists at Rockefeller Center? Not this year.

This November, 2016, Fourth Street Live and Light Up Louisville opened their very first outdoor ice skating rink.  Old fashioned ice skating brings new joy to your holiday season!  Enjoy the synchronized lights and giant Christmas tree beginning at 6:00 pm.

$5/hr for adults

$3/hr for children

Only $2 for skate rental

Open until Christmas Eve

Monday-Thursday 11:30 am to 9:00 pm

Friday & Saturday 11:30 am to midnight

Sunday 11:30 am to 8:00 pm

 

Other Skating Rinks:

Alpine Ice Arena on Gardiner Lane was the go-to indoor rink in Louisville for decades; it’s still in full swing and will provide your family a great experience. Admission is $6 per adult, $5 for children six and under, and skate rental is $3. Directions, schedule and printable coupons are available at www.alpineicearena.com.

If you’re in the East End, Iceland Sports Complex at 1701 UPS Drive might be a better fit. Public skating sessions are Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, and a full calendar can be viewed at icelandlouisville.com. Admission is $6. Figure skate rental is $2 and hockey skate rental is $3.

And head over to the Jeffersonville (IN) Outdoor Ice Rink on December 27 from 6:00-7:30 pm for perhaps the greatest deal on ice. LouisvilleFamilyFun is celebrating its third birthday by throwing an ice skating party for the community while giving back to the community. Admission AND skate rental is $1 per person, and 100% goes directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana.
