Founded in 1995, the Louisville Area Fiber and Textile Artists (LAFTA) is an organization of more than 80 local visual artists whose work encompasses an array of surface design and construction techniques including hand and machine embroidery, quilting, weaving, beading, batik and shibori dyeing, paper- and felt-making, and basketry. Designed to provide a forum for general exchange of ideas and opportunities for networking, LAFTA is also active in the community, providing artwork to Home of the Innocents, The Family Place, and the Kosair Charities Child Advocacy Center.

WRITERS BLOCK FESTIVAL

The Writer’s Block Festival celebrates literature and the writing craft with a range of activities, readings, panels, guest talks, a book-in-common discussion, craft workshops and a print & resource fair. The open space at the Tim Faulkner Gallery will allow participants to roam from one activity to the next—stroll the print and resource fair for reading and writing resources, sit down to hear one or all of three panel discussions, attend craft workshops, stop in the gallery’s McQuixote coffee shop for a chat with other readers and writers, step outside to get lunch from a food truck, and imbibe in an adult beverage during late afternoon and evening activities.

Light Up St. Matthews @ Brown Park

Parking for the event will be at 4007 Kresge Way, a part of the Baptist Health Louisville Campus directly across from the hospital.

Light Up St. Matthews has been a tradition for decades for hundreds of residents and visitors to St. Matthews. This year the annual celebration launching the holiday season is expanding its light display by adding eight new displays.

Light Up St. Matthews begins Saturday December 3rd at 4 p.m. with the customary celebration of cookies and hot chocolate, a live DJ, pictures with Santa and Mrs. Clause, activities for the kids, and fun for the entire family. At 6 p.m. the event concludes with Santa turning on the lights throughout the park.

The lights will stay lit until after the New Year and visitors are welcome to attend the park throughout that time to enjoy the lights. The event is held at Brown Park in St. Matthews, located on Kresge Way right next to Baptist Hospital East, it is an easy access park. All activities start under the big tent. Parking for the event will be at 4007 Kresge Way, a part of the Baptist Health Louisville Campus directly across from the hospital.

90.5 WUOL Classical Louisville is proud to present the 11th annual Holiday Choral Festival on Sunday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Celebrate the season with a brilliant array of voices and musical selections in the beautiful setting of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church.

This year’s program will showcase four performances featuring the University of Louisville Cardinal Singers under the direction of Kent Hatteberg. Kentucky Opera Studio Artists, the Louisville Youth Choir and The Choir of St. Martin of Tours Church will also perform.

Admission is $10 for Louisville Public Media Members, $15 for non-members and $10 for children under 18. Tickets can be purchased at ticketfly.com, by phone at 877-435-9849 or at the Louisville Public Media office at 619 S. Fourth St. beginning Friday, November 4 at noon.
